All new and transfer international students upon his/her arrival to Texas A&M University-Kingsville cannot register for courses immediately.

  • The International Student Services (ISS) office is required to keep copies of certain documents in the student's file per Immigration and Naturalization Services rules and regulations.
  • Due to mandatory insurance requirements, proof of coverage must be submitted to the ISS office. Copies of coverage/policy are placed in the student's file.
  • The TAMUK Executive Council approved the request that orientation for new and transfer international students be mandatory.

The ISS office places a "hold" for each item mentioned above on the student's records. This blocks any student from registering for courses.

  • The Admissions Office also places "holds" on students' records which will block the student from registering. The ISS office can check your records to see if you have any holds placed by Admissions.

New and transfer international students can register for courses only after all holds have been cleared or waived by the appropriate office.

Once holds have been cleared, the student needs to meet with his/her graduate advisor in the department of his/her major and follows the steps below.

  1. Obtain degree plan from academic advisor in your area of study/major.
  2. Choose courses. Required minimum credits hours per immigration regulations: Graduate - 9 credit hours.
  3. Advisor/department secretary will input courses into computer. Request copy of class schedule.
  4. Pay tuition fees at Business office located in College Hall. Request receipt of tuition bill indicating payment had been made.
  5. Take receipt of tuition bill to ID Center located in Student Union Building (SUB). The Office is directly across from Pizza Hut. Receipt required to obtain University ID card.
