| Unconditional admission criteria
- Admission requirements, guidelines, and procedures
not already listed in the current catalog:
1. Standardized test: GRE (V+Q), minimum
score of 1100 or (V+Q+A), minimum score of
1600.
2. Minimum undergraduate GPA: 3.0, based on
all undergraduate course work.
3. Stem course: Students' backgrounds are
evaluated on a case-by-case basis as to the
need for stem course work.
4. International Students: minimum TOEFL score
is 600.
Exceptions to these requirements are made
on a case-by-case basis based on a faculty
committee review of the applicants additional
qualifications.
- Guidelines and procedures for administering
and evaluating the comprehensive exam:
The comprehensive exam is a one-part oral
exam. The exam is administered on the date
of the thesis/project defense and is evaluated
by the thesis (project) committee. Students
are allowed to take the comprehensive exam
no more than two times.
Graduation requirements, guidelines,
and procedures:
- 1. Core courses required for graduation:
Total of 18 hours.
Fundamentals of Water Quality Engineering
(EVEN 6315)
Fundamentals of Solid / Hazardous Waste Engineering
(EVEN 6308)
Fundamentals of Air Quality Engineering (EVEN
6309)
Environmental Management and Policy (EVEN
6354)
Application of Chemical Principles to Environmental
Engineering (EVEN 6319)
Environmental Monitoring and Measurements
(EVEN 6329).
2. Electives courses required for graduation:
Total of 6 hours (Plan I), 18 hours (Plan
II).
Courses must be approved by student's advisory
committee. Plan III students may receive 6
hours credit with proof of a valid Professional
engineering license.
3. Research or Project courses required for
graduation: Total of 6 hours of (Plan I)
3 hours for proposal preparation and approval
and 3 hours for Thesis preparation and defense.
A research project paper is required for Plan
II or III. The research project paper may
be produced as part of an existing course,
or a formal individualized instruction project
course with equivalency may be substituted.
- Other requirements, guidelines, or
procedures:
1. The Environmental Engineering department
requires candidates to write either a Thesis
or Research Project Report. Prior to any research
work being done, the student must write a
proposal to map out procedures, data collection,
aim, and value of research. After completion
of said research, the student submits his/her
report for review to the thesis chairman and
committee to discuss any discrepancies that
must be addressed. After addressing the expressed
concerns, the student will schedule a thesis
defense at which time he/she should discuss
the validity of the procedures and data collection
methods as well as the results and/or need
for further study.
2. Thesis is required to contain original
work, data collection, and analysis, as well
as being a publishable quality document.
