Our group is focused
on developing cost-effective,
safe environmental solutions to
complex problems arising from
the management and final disposition
of solid and hazardous materials.
In the South Texas region, important
management strategies are being
developed for industrial, municipal
and agricultural wastes which
pose significant environmental
disposal issues.
Research in the
areas of industrial wastewater
treatment and reuse, phytoremediation
with native vegetation, composting
of recalcitrant wastes and constructed
wetlands for waste treatment is
being pursued. |

The mission of the Solid and
Hazardous Waste Research Group
is to lead the way in providing
solutions and research in sustainable
technologies for the treatment
and management of solid and
hazardous waste in the South
Texas and similar regions experiencing
accelerated economic development.
An important focus of the Group
is the assessment of waste minimization
and pollution prevention approaches
which can be implemented up
front to mitigate the waste
disposal problem.
