History

The Environmental Engineering (EVEN) program at Texas A&M University - Kingsville was implemented in the spring of 1990, with the first course being offered in the fall of the same year. The EVEN program is interdisciplinary in nature, offering courses in conjunction with most of the physical sciences and engineering departments, in addition to courses offered within the program itself. Students with both physical sciences and engineering undergraduate degrees are accepted into the program with preparatory courses being offered to allow the students to meet minimum ABET basic engineering requirements as stipulated by the Association of Environmental Engineering Professors (AEEP) and the American Academy of Environmental Engineering (AAEE). Current enrollment is 73 graduate students (40 M.S. students and 33 Ph.D. students) majoring in Environmental Engineering. The program includes the newly approved Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering. Many of the courses offered through the program are conducted on-line and in the evenings. This is to accommodate the approximately 20% of the students coming from local industry who enroll in the curriculum part time.

Program Description

This prestigious program exposes graduate students to the necessary balance of fundamental theory and applied technologies in Environmental Engineering Professional Practice. The interdisciplinary nature of the program and the degree of cooperation between the faculties in all the related areas provide the students with access state of the science teaching methods and facilities. Students completing this course of study are eminently employable and immediately productive in a variety of work force settings.
